Indonesian Ministry of Education Cooperates With Netflix


The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) has partnered with Netflix to support the growth of Indonesian cinema in order to be able to rally at global level.

This partnership focuses on developing the creative ability of Indonesian film, especially in the field of creative writing, post-production training.

In addition, there will also be training in the field of online security and also governance facing the growth of dynamic creative industry.

"Increasing the capacity of our talents is paramount. So, the cooperation is to unlock the potential of Indonesia's Indonesian filming industry for us to showcase our culture, the modern culture and culture of our traditions," said Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim.

in the event of a joint press conference with Netflix at the Jakarta Kemendikbud Building (9/1/2020), Nadiem delivered the first possible way of creating thousands, even tens of thousands ' story telling about Indonesia through the film.


"That's why Netflix, Netflix was a global distribution scale so what more way to show Indonesian cinema talents if not through Netflix," said Nadiem.

Netflix is committed to investing USD 1 million or about Rp 14 billion by sending film scriptwriter to Hollywood United States, which is planned to take place in March 2020. Furthermore, there will also be workshops for screenwriting and post-production training in Jakarta.

"Beyond that, there will be a short film competition that Netflix will implement is ' Pancasila ', this is what I'm waiting for as well as what these short films are," continued Nadiem.

Nadiem also hope that Indonesia can be the location of shooting movies from many different movie makers of the world.

Asia Pacific's Managing Director, Kuek Yu Chuang said, "It is now the Golden age for Indonesia under new leadership rooted in entrepreneurship to reap the results of a rapidly growing digital economy."

Kuek explained that it supports the development efforts of Indonesia's great potential in film field.

"We believe there will be many great Indonesian stories that will be generated from Indonesia. Through this cooperation we want to be able to contribute to the growth of creative communities in Indonesia," said Kuek.

Kuek also hopes that it can bring unique themes about Indonesia to be enjoyed by the world community in the future.
